Matty C.: 4 re-signs in 5 years seems a bit low? Maybe I am misunderstanding (probably am), but if you have a roster and each year there are multiple expiring contracts, you can only keep 4 of those players that expire throughout the 5 years?
A league that some of us in are now (and where we took this rule from) only allows 3 but the idea behind it is that it keeps a flow of players into FA who otherwise might never be available on the open market. If you choose not to re-sign a player it doesn't prohibit you from bidding for him in FA and there's always a chance you could get him for less than what a re-sign would cost. If guys think we should change this number we can.

I'm cool with whatever the rules are, just wanted to make sure I was understanding it correctly. So pretty much our rosters will be overhauled each year, depending on who you decide to keep and for how long. But you can only re-sign a player/players 4 times? That's a lot of turn-over for a dynasty league.

It all depends on the length of the contracts in your roster. I have a team in another league, 14 players per roster, with only one expiring contract so I'll just draft a rookie to replace my expiring contract. All the rules are open to suggestion so if guys think we should change this we can discuss it. Nothing is set in stone yet.

I am sure it works out so we don't lose too many players all at once. I'm ok with it, just want to make sure I am understanding

It takes a bit of planning because in 3 years I’ll have four contracts expiring so I’ll have to plan around that

I guess I'll get this started again. I'd like to suggest that free agents who were signed in the pre-season bidding be allowed as comps when negotiating re-sign salary. In my opinion, free agent prices are a good reflection of market value for players, and re-signs are almost detrimental at the moment.

Re-signs happen first, before free agency. How would that work?

You can use guys that were signed to long term deals last free agency period.

If you think you can get guys cheaper by allowing them into free agency rather than re-signing them we could create a restricted free agency option. You could put your free agent onto the market during the re-sign period and allow other GMs to bid on them but you have the right to match the winning bid. It can be a bit of a gamble if there is a lot of interest in the player but you could also get him at a discount if managers are reluctant to bid because they have other targets in free agency.
