RFA proposal:
Each off season managers will have the opportunity to select up to two players with expiring contracts from their roster as restricted free agents (RFA's). *It is NOT necessary for a manager to have any RFA's.
The selection of these players will be posted on a "Restricted Free Agency" thread.
After managers select their RFA's, they will still have the opportunity to re-sign these players prior to them going to the restricted free agency pool. If they successfully re-sign the player, managers can NOT designate another expiring contract as an RFA.
If the re-signing of an RFA (needs to be a designated restricted FA) is declined by mods, the RFA will then join the RFA pool.
The RFA pool will be completed prior to regular free agency opening.
RFA pool rules:
Three restricted free agents will be posted at a time.
Each manager will have the opportunity to silently bid on the restricted free agents in a 24 window not exceeding their cap space. After 24 hours, the bidding will be public and the incumbent manager will have the opportunity to match the top bidder to earn their player back. In the event, they bring their player back, it will be counted as a "re-sign."
In a nutshell: I'll use Mikal Bridges as an example as he's expiring for me this year
1. I designate Bridges as an RFA
2. I fail to re-sign Bridges on 3 attempts
3. Bridges goes to RFA pool
4. Whitacre has highest bid for Bridges at $20M and 4 years.
5. Whitacre wins Bridges or I match at EXACTLY $20M and 4 years.
*RFA's will be announced by managers within 48 hours after the deadline of trading expiring contracts on September 10th.
*Regular free agent re-signing process can happen simultaneously with RFA re-signing process but RFA bidding will be completed prior to regular free agency.
