In order to add a layer of strategy/gamesmanship and to make the process closer to the actual re-signing/free agency.
My proposal is as follows:
1. Managers can choose to either go through the Moderator approval system of making a re-signing offer based on comps or opening a player they would like to re-sign up for restricted free agency.
2. Each manager will be able to put up one player for RFA per season within the limit of 4 re-signs in 5 years.
3. Only one RFA player will be considered at a time. There will be a random draw to determine the order in which managers will have the option to put up a player up for RFA.
4. If a manager opts for RFA, they will make an announcement on proboards, and all managers will have a 24 hour period to make a sealed bid to an impartial party (someone not in the league). The manager of the player up for RFA will have the choice to match the highest bid or let the player go.
5. RFA contracts can be vetoed by MODS, but there must be unanimous vote to veto.

I am interested in this idea and have thought about it before as well. It just seems like a lot more time/work commitment for everyone. We would have to start the league much earlier in order to accommodate only one RFA at a time.

Can we make a rule where each team announces two restricted free agents each offseason? The restricted free agency rule is a good one in my opinion.
IF there's a flaw in the re-sign rule now, it would be that you make a fair offer for a player, it gets declined but then the player ends up going for less in FA.
By having a couple restricted FA's we eliminate this debate as the market will dictate the value of the player and give the incumbent manager the opportunity to bring the player back at market value.
hypothetical: I offer Bridges $14,000,000 over 4 years and it gets declined because he was lights out last year. In my opinion, he's a bit of a wild card as he's not a true #1 so his value will decrease if he's real life traded. Subsequently he goes to FA and the top bid comes in at $12,000,000 over 4 years. I now have the opportunity to match. Or the top bid comes in at $22,000,000 in FA and I still have the chance to bring him back but I've already spent my money so I can't match and I get punished for low balling.
Is this not fair?
