The draft process will start with each GM choosing two NBA teams via a snake draft. The first GM in the randomly generated order will choose his first team and the two players from that squad that they would like followed by the GM who is second on the list and so on. The GM listed at number 12 will also choose at number 13 and the draft will continue back the list until the first GM chooses their second team at number 24. The two players will join their squad at that their current salary and the remaining length of contract. Any optional years will be included as team options but qualifying offers will be excluded. Any player currently on their rookie contract, with said contract expiring in 2019, who has already agreed an extension so start in the 2019/20 season can only be signed for the remainder of their rookie contract, for example, Devin Booker. Rookies cannot be chosen at this stage of the draft.
Following the initial selection of teams there will be a four round expansion draft. A new random draft order will be made for the expansion draft. This will also be a snake draft and the players eligible to be drafted in the first three rounds of the expansion draft are ALL remaining players at their current salary and contract length. The fourth round of the expansion draft will be a rookie draft and all rookies are eligible to be drafted here.
The contracts for all rookies will be based on the rookie scale which starts at $6,000,000 per year for the first rookie chosen and decreases by $200,000 per pick which means the final rookie chosen (no. 12) will be paid $3,800,000. All rookie contracts will be 3 year deals with a 4th year team option. If the team decides to exercise the team option, they will be able to extend a qualifying offer for the 5th year at a $2 million pay increase. The drafting team may pass on the qualifying offer and sign said draftee to a long-term deal if they choose to do so.
Following the rookie draft Free Agency will open and GMs can bid on all remaining players to complete their rosters.
