Australia has had many US basketballers plying their trade to try and make it or back to the big time. Think James Ennis in recent times got his kickstart in a starring role for the Perth Wildcats a few seasons back.
The NBL equivalent of the big league is a strong competition that has seen many Aussies have a stellar career abroad after starring there. Think Joe Ingles, Patty Mills, Aron Baynes to name just a few and former #1 draft pick Andrew Bogut has joined the NBL after an extremely successful NBA career to help bring on the next generation of Aussie ballers. There is also the great Luc Longley who won a threepeat of championships with the Michael Jordan led Bulls in 1991-1993 and owned the Perth Wildcats for a period of time in the early 2000's. And with a young phenom named Ben Simmons whose father Dave was a revelation back in the 90’s winning championships and many awards with the Melbourne Tigers.
We think it is about time that Australia have their very own franchise in the NBA.
A conglomerate of wealthy businessman has nominated the Hawthorn Hawks be that team.
Hawthorn are a very successful club in the Australian sporting landscape at AFL level in particular and are the envy of all other sporting franchises down under. They are extremely successful in many other codes as well as dominating the AFL competition. In addition to AFL, they are one of the leading sporting clubs at VFL, AFLW, Super Netball, wheelchair basketball and all are playing under the same Hawthorn banner.
The successes that they have had rival those of the Lakers and Celtics in the modern NBA. They have a winning culture, develop, nurture to achieve the ultimate glory. They aim to win every season!
Building new facilities in Dingley to cater all their sporting teams after a tremendous amount of support and lobbying it is a no-brainer that they be Australia’s first team to enter the lucrative NBA.
With a membership of over 150,000 paid up and passionate supporters in a city with a population of just under 5 million people is the benchmark and envy of all sporting franchises in Australia.
The club colours will be the traditional brown and gold stripes that have won 13 premierships including their famous back to back to back AFL titles in 2013-2015.
Their logos promote toughness and a never give up attitude that will take the first ever NBA championship abroad and take it down under.
And once again the world will go crazy for that great tune when Australia stole the America’s Cup away from the grasp of the US for the first time in history way back in 1983 will be bellowed out globally.
WE COME FROM A LAND DOWN UNDER!!
Welcome to the NBA the Hawthorn Hawks
