1. Free agency will begin following the completion of the draft. The date will be determined on a year-to-year basis.
2. A list of free agents can be found on our yahoo site. It is far easier to keep track of eligible free agents this way.
3. To bid on a free agent, create a post in the Free Agency board with the player's name as the title.
4. Once a bid has been placed it cannot be withdrawn.
5. When a bid has been posted, it is treated as a cap hold. This means that the leading bidder must account for that salary when bidding on other players. If a potential bid puts a team over the salary cap, the bid is invalid.
6. If a potential bid puts you over the roster limit, it is invalid.
7. The maximum number of years a free agent can be signed for is 4. The minimum is 1. There are no option years for free agents.
8. The minimum salary is $500,000. There is no maximum.
9. Points are as follows: 1 point per $1,000,000. 0.5 points per year. An offer of $1,000,000 for 1 year = 1.5 points. An offer of $500,000 for 4 years = 2.5 points.
10. You MUST include the point total of your bid for it to be considered valid. If the point total does not match up with the offer, the bid is invalid.
11. The minimum bid increase is 0.5 points. There is no maximum.
12. Free agency closes at the end of the regular season. Any playoff team wishing to sign a free agenct must submit a waiver to the commissioner for review.
13. If a bid puts a team over the roster limit, they must state explicitly who will be waived in their bid post. If that team wins said free agent, that player is not eligible to play until the player currently on their roster has been removed.
14. If a team has the highest bid after 24 hours, they win that free agent. The clock resets with each bid.

Could someone explain to me rule 9? I'm a bit lost here with the points. Sorry, I'm new to dynasty leagues.

When you make an offer in free agency you calculate how many points your offer is worth so that it has a numerical value, that way we can see if the subsequent bid beats your offer which it has to do to be a valid bid. For example, if you're bidding on Dennis Schroeder and you offer $5,000,000 x 3 years = 8 points. If another GM wants to make a higher offer they must beat your bid by 0.2 points so they can offer $5,200,000 x 3 years = 8.2 points or $8,200,000 x 1 year = 8.2 points or $4,200,000 x 4 years = 8.2 points. So we can see that each of these offers beats the previous one. When you're making these offers you have to make sure that the numbers add up or your bid is invalid.

That makes perfect sense. Thanks for the clarification.

If Team A bids 10mil and Team B bids 20mil for player X, does Team A's bid still count against the cap hold? Can Team A then use that 10mil bid on someone else?

As soon as a bid is beat, the cap hold is done.

If you have 30 minutes to rescind your bid on a FA, does that mean we are not allowed to bid within 30 minutes of someone else's bid? So, if I want a player that is already being bid on, do I need to wait 30 minutes from the last bid in order to place my own?

So, if I want a player that is already being bid on, do I need to wait 30 minutes from the last bid in order to place my own? What it means is that you have 30 minutes to change your mind. Eg: $250,000 @ 4 years = 4.25 points If I change my mind and do not want this player any longer I reply to the post with something along the lines of 'bid withdrawn'. You have 30 minutes to do this and once that time limit has elapsed the bid is live and you cannot change although the bid starts on the clock from when you post your bid. Hope this makes sense? You can up your bid on another player at anytime as long as you are under the limit of players available for your roster.

So, that goes for only FA bids that are first? If I bid on an already live FA, I don't have 30 minutes to change my bid. Just the original FA bid.

For example: I bid: Player 'X' - $250,000 @ 4 years = 4.25 points You bid: $500,000 @ 4 years = 4.5 points I bid: $700,000 @ 4 years = 4.7 points You bid: $900,000 @ 4 years = 4.9 points within 30 minutes you 'bid withdrawn' I have the live bid at: $700,000 @ 4 years = 4.7 points You now have a bid up your sleeve and can go ahead and bid on another player. Does this make sense?

4. A team has 30 minutes to withdraw a bid. If the bid is withdrawn in this time frame, it is treated as if it never happened. (I think we should repeal this. It messes with the timeline of the other bid. People should just be sure before they make a bid.)
5. If a bid is not withdrawn, it is treated as a cap hold. This means that the leading bidder must account for that salary when bidding on other players. If a potential bid puts a team over the salary cap, the bid is invalid. (See Rule 4.)
6. If a potential bid puts you over the roster limit, it is invalid.
7. The maximum number of years a free agent can be signed for is 4. The minimum is 1. There are no option years for free agents.
8. The minimum salary is $250,000. There is no maximum.
9. Points are as follows: 1 point per $1,000,000. 0.5 points per year. An offer of $1,000,000 for 1 year = 1.5 points. An offer of $500,000 for 4 years = 2.5 points. (This is under review elsewhere. In this example, a player would certainly prefer a 2 year deal at $1 million per over the 4 year deal. That would only be 2 points though and would be .7 poinst away from exceeding the listed bid. That doesn't make sense.)
10. You MUST include the point total of your bid for it to be considered valid. If the point total does not match up with the offer, the bid is invalid.
11. The minimum bid increase is 0.2 points. There is no maximum.
12. Free agency closes at the end of the regular season. Any playoff team wishing to sign a free agency must submit a waiver to the commissioner for review. (this isn't what we were doing for the playoffs, so it should be re-worded. For example: Free agency closes at the end of the regular season. Any playoff team wishing to sign an FA can only sign that player until the end of the season. Eliminated teams may not sign any players.)
13. Any player signed in the off-season may not be traded or waived during the first 2 weeks of the regular season. (This seems like a rule that doens't really help anyone. Not sure it is needed).
14. Any player signed after the season starts may not be traded or waived for 2 weeks after their signing date. (like in 13 and as Adam has argued elsewhere, this should be reconsidered)
15. If a bid puts a team over the roster limit, they must state explicitly who will be waived in their bid post. If that team wins said free agent, that player is not eligible to play until the player currently on their roster has been removed. (we've had issues with changing the name of the player to be waived. we should decide if A: it we are allowed to change the dropped player at any point during the process B: if we are allowed, does it reset the bid time or just proceed as normal. Personally, not sure why it matters who is released until the deal is actually done.)
16. If a team has the highest bid after 24 hours, they win that free agent. The clock resets with each bid.

I think is we change rule 4 (which I agree no withdrawal) then we can get rid of rules 13 & 14 since the team will still incur a salary penalty if they waive them.
Rule 13/14 hurts, especially if they get injured, etc. right after signing them.

Deleted: 13. [NEW RULE] Previously, a new bid on a free agent had to beat the previous bid by .2. This is still true of bids for equal lenghts of contract time. However, a GM may offer a contract that will pay the player more/equal money over a shorter period of time. In these cases, the .2 threshold need not be met. For example, Bid 1: $600,000 @ 4 years = 2.6pts Bid 2: $1,200,000 @ 2 years = 2.2 pts *Bid 2 would be acceptable since it offers the same money as Bid 1, but it is for fewer years. When calculating the leading bid, the simple rule of thumb is: Same Years +.2, Fewer Years = total salary of the original bid, or more.
