Each team will be allowed (2) G-League spots that they can use at their discretion.
The G-League is reserved for players that were DRAFTED by the team in the rookie draft before each season.
There will be a one-time retroactive allowance for players drafted in the 2020-21 rookie draft to be placed in the G-League.
Upon drafting a player and before the season has begun, the GM must decide if he will add the rookie to the active squad or to the G-League.
Once a player is on the active squad, they can not be sent to the G-League.
If a player is placed on the G-League, his salary (*see salary below) will not count toward the team's cap so long as the player remains on the G-League team. Once the player is activated, that salary would then count against the cap.
During the season, the GM may add the G-League player to his roster at any point provided he has sufficient salary cap space and an open roster spot.
In each subsequent season, prior to free agency, a GM must decide if he is keeping the player in the G-League or activating him. One year comes off of his contract, just like every other player. If he is activating him, he now has an open spot on his G-League squad. If he decides to keep him on, he may, but another GM has the right to place a claim on the player by offering him an active roster spot at the player's listed salary. The owning GM then has 24 hours to decide if he wants to activate the player OR let him go to the other GM.
*salary: rookie salaries are calculated according to slot. This will remain the same for the G-League player but will only count once activated.
