Just came up with this. Haven't hashed out full details, but this could be exciting and keep everyone involved until the end.
The season would consist of two parts. Regular Season, 12 weeks. Playoffs 5 weeks.
Entry: 150,000
Regular season: 1,200,000 Playoffs: 600,000
Regular season: No divisions. Random schedule (play everyone once and one random game) After 12 weeks, the top 3 teams in standings get the regular season haul: 600, 400, 200
Playoffs: Everyone gets in. top 4 teams in regular season get a bye. 5 v 12 6 v 11 7 v 10 8 v 9
next round, top seed can play who ever he wants, 2nd seed gets next pick, 3rd gets next pick, 4th gets next choice. Same thing in next round until there is a champion (highest remaining seed gets to choose next opponent).
winner of final gets the whole 600.
Benefits: 1) no more whining about regular season v. playoff randomness
2) every team is still alive until the end of the season. Trading deadline may get a lot more interesting.
3) fun as hell

This looks very interesting. I think there are good ideas here.
Instead of picking who you want to play though after the 1st round, why not just do re-seeding?

There are a few things we could tweak. The pick who you want to play is more interesting, because the top seed can target underperforming teams...re-seed might get you stuck with a guy who was injured all year and is now on a hot streak with all his players back.
But, I'm mostly interested in the general concept..some details can be worked out if people are actually interested.
It's a huge change, but would keep every GM alive all year.

I would be in favor of this concept.
